Enlarged facial pores are a common beauty concern that many would like to understand and remedy. If you have this concern, here's what you should know.

PORE SIZE

A pore is an opening in the skin that ensures input and output of gasses and fluids. The size of pores is most noticeable on the nose, mid cheeks, forehead and chin. Although benign, the pore size, or the appearance of large pores is a worry because they are perceived as signs of aging or “imperfect skin”. 

Skin exposure to environmental factors such as extreme heat, sun , cold and pollutants, among others can affect skin elasticity and produce enlarged pores. Skin prone to congestion can also be a canvas for enlarged pores and it is very important to cleanse, extract and exfoliate the skin surface regularly. Though the appearance of the pore size can be improved, it cannot be changed. 

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP THE PORE SIZE APPEARANCE

Large pores are best treated by keeping the skin clean and and adjacent skin areas hydrated and plum, so that the pores appear less large.  Here are the most important steps to remember:

CLEANSE THOROUGHLY

Wash out the pore debris 

USE NON-COMEDOGENIC INGREDIENTS

Use products that are free of pore clogging ingredients.   Pore cloggers are cosmetic ingredients that have the ability to quickly contribute to the formation of blackheads in the pores, and then eventually acne. EXFOLIATE

Exfoliate excess build up in the pores that can lead to permanent pore enlargement (eg. large, calcified blackheads)

HYDRATE

Hydrate & plump the skin with a toner &/or serum with humectants and hydrators. 

TREATMENTS

Use products that help regulate Sebum (oil) such as Retinols. 

SUNSCREEN

Prevent damage to collagen and elastin (skin sagging) by using sunscreen and practicing safe sun exposure.
