As temperatures rise and humidity increases, these changes can impact your skin, potentially leading to an uptick in breakouts and acne. Combatting these seasonal fluctuations requires adjusting your skincare routine to address the specific challenges posed by warmer weather.

Here are some strategies for managing seasonal acne during the spring and summer months:

Cleanse Regularly

Increased sweating and oil production in warmer weather can contribute to clogged pores and breakouts. Therefore, it's essential to cleanse your skin regularly to remove excess oil, dirt, and impurities. Opt for a gentle cleanser formulated for acne-prone skin to keep your pores clear without stripping away essential moisture.

Use Lightweight, Non-Comedogenic Products

Swap out heavy, occlusive moisturizers and skin care products for lightweight, non-pore-clogging formulations.

Incorporate AHAs, BHA and Retinoids, and Benzoyl Peroxide

These are known for their ability to penetrate the pores and exfoliate dead skin cells, helping to prevent and treat acne. 

Avoid Over-Exfoliation 

While exfoliation removes dead skin cells and prevents clogged pores, over-exfoliation can strip the skin's natural barrier and lead to irritation and inflammation. Limit exfoliation to 2-3 times per week and choose gentle exfoliants suitable for your skin type.

Spot Treatment

Instead of treating your entire facial area, focus on spot-treating blemishes to avoid potential dryness and peeling. This will still give you targeted and effective action on the affected spots.

Protect Your Skin from UV Damage

Sun exposure can exacerbate acne and lead to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), so it's essential to protect your skin with a non-comedogenic, broad-spectrum sunscreen, which should be reapplied every 2 hours.

Detox

Before summer, it is ideal to detoxify your body from toxins and impurities that are stored in your body over the winter months. Juice cleanse, carb elimination,  alcohol elimination, and similar practices will all help with digestion and improve your skin health.

Peels and Acne treatments

Before the onset of hot summer days, it's advisable to explore options like chemical peels and acne treatments, as they are not recommended during warmer weather due to the increase in sun exposure.
